There has been limited research into the possible role of hyperplasia on human skeletal muscle growth in response to exercise. For two - rather old - reviews on the topic, see Antonio & Gonyea (1) and Reggiani & te Kronnie (2). Hypertrophy is the major response to exercise in humans (3, cited in 4). Although it is possible that hyperplasia plays some role in muscle growth after exercise, there does not seem to be enough information available to give specific exercise recommendations that would increase the role of hyperplasia, if it is even possible.
