I'm aware this question may sound stupid but I'm wondering why the research & development in genetics is advancing so slowly compared with the IT world. Is it a problem of funding , ethics, interest ? You can get a PC with just few bucks or get inexpensive computing power “in the cloud” from services such Amazon AWS, Google etc but I doubt that you can get a lab/development environment with the same amount. There doesn't seem to be any "cloud service"/remote either .

This is really more of a discussion, not a question that fits into the Q&A format – Mad Scientist Oct 20 '12 at 9:33
You can sequence an entire genome for less than $10k, compared to $10M five years ago and $100M ten years ago. I would not say genetics is advancing slowly... genome.gov/sequencingcosts – nico Oct 20 '12 at 14:28
@nico Ok but in terms of results I don't see genetic treatments mainstream at all. There seem to be few clinical tests per year. – mihai Oct 20 '12 at 14:49
@mihal you might put this up on quora - its a good question and you would get some great discussion going there. – shigeta Oct 21 '12 at 3:19
@shigeta great, just done that! – mihai Oct 21 '12 at 4:08
