Histone deacetylase (HDAC) is a family of enzymes (the known members of which are currently numbered 1-11) that play key roles in gene expression. They seem to play key roles in:

  • Tumorigenesis
  • Various protein's expression.

    These include:

    • The androgen receptor
    • The glucocorticoid receptor
    • Heat shock protein 90 (HSP90)
    • α-Tubulin

    and many others

  • HIV latency

and other processes of biologic significance.
