An idea: dead bodies attract potentially dangerous animals. So hide them underground was a strategy to protect the group.

comment Comparing BLAST and the Smith-Waterman algorithm
It doesn't improve DP, is less accurate but usable for large databases with excellent results

comment Why aren't mitochondria and plastids considered symbiotes of eukaryotic cells?
I agree with this answer. Symbionts are distinguished as separate complete organisms in some stage, despite their need of other to survive.

Thanks, I was planning to do something like that. I think I'm going to try against some of the known bacteria of termite guts.

comment Assembly of metagenomic data
The protocol have not been biased, that would be the correct approach. I was just hoping for some new point of view. What do you think about comparative assemble against some other assembled metagenomic data set to compare?. Thanks

comment Why does the butterfly have a cocoon stage in its life cycle?
I talk about efficiency as in survival fitness. What I meant is that maybe the metabolic expense of such life-cycle it's compensated by the adaptation capabilities provided. I have no proof of this, I's just a though.

comment Why does the butterfly have a cocoon stage in its life cycle?
I agree it requires complex genetics, but that does not imply higher energy cost or low efficiency.
