Hey there, my name is Lance Lafontaine.

I am a Cell and Molecular Biology undergraduate student at Concordia University, aspiring to be a biotechnologist/synthetic biologist. I am interested in all that's related to science, technology, and freethinking, among other things.

comment Is there an evolutionary reason for the 5 electron transport complexes in plants and animals?
The second paper and associated paragraph is EXACTLY what I was looking for. +1, thanks.

Great answer, but I'll wait to see if anyone has any evolutionary evidence of the described situations.

comment Average number of gene products in (a) eukaryote(s)
I'm looking for protein products as well as non-translated RNAs.

comment Preserved alpha complementation over evolutionary time?
Those two are almost "the opposite" of the answer I was expecting. Two genes which "came together" through evolutionary time. Although it might be interesting to point it out in the answer, I am thinking along the lines of "one gene becoming two associated ones though evolutionary time".

Seems right. I would choose those answers as well.
