PhD student in Paris.

Working on the crosstalk of glucocorticoids and thyroid hormones at a genome wide level during the metamorphosis of the Xenopus tropicalis tadpole.

I also have some knowledge in bioinformatics, more precisely in processing and analysis of NGS data.

comment How are the boundaries of a gene determined?
@nico : Ok, I see your point, but I don't think the OP had this definition of a gene in mind. Also, I totally agree that new technologies such as RNA-seq give you a more comprehensive answer for genome annotation.

@nico : so, with the definition you provide, a gene has no boundaries.

Just a note: qualifying a species of "lower organism" could make some purist cringe ... I dont have a straight answer, but you might be interested in this paper which describes a model of event memory in amoeba

comment What histological stain can I use for beta-keratin?
After a quick search, it seems that many people working on beta keratin use specific antibodies. Yet it appears that you could use toluidine blue, but I'm not sure about the specificity regarding alpha/beta keratin.

comment Bacterial chromatin binding data?
Well, a byproduct of the fact that prokaryotes do not have nucleosomes, is that they don't have chromatin either. Compaction is achieved through supercoiling of the genophore. Do you mean binding of a protein to prokaryotic DNA ?
