Medical student in the United Kingdom, having previously studied Biology at A-Level. I spend a good deal of my time volunteering with St John Ambulance, which I find fantastically rewarding and when I'm not writing essays I'm handling flags here on Bio.SE.

Multiple Systems Atrophy - clinical trials @JustinBicknell the trouble is that if he struggles to keep up as an expert in his field then we're definitely not in a position to give advice. Try and talk it through with him as best you can; I really do sympathise with your situation |

Can ingestion of B6 cause gastrointestinal disturbance? However, in all cases along these lines, see your doctor rather than the internet :) There's a lot more to be safely gained through thorough history from a professional and clinical examination than through a question asked on a website |

How is ammonia removed from the colon? and from MRHA "Lactulose is used to treat hepatic encephalopathy by reducing the pH of the colon causing ammonia to form in the colon, thereby reducing blood-ammonia concentrations." |

How is ammonia removed from the colon? It's an interesting one, the BNF states that it "discourages the proliferation of ammonia-producing organisms" in the GI tract rather than pulling ammonia into the gut lumen, I'll perhaps write a full answer when my exams are out of the way :) |
