For the time being, I think the best bet is to regard things as life if they look like life as we know it on Earth. It is dreadfully anthropocentric but at least its a starter until we really understand what separated living from non-living.

Are they really saying that the lifespan of their control samples (i.e. men with testes) was only 51-56 years? That is worryingly low - I suspect that something else may be going on there .. ?
