I think I have a basic understanding about the function of these cytoskeleton-linked junctions, and they can link one cell to another and the interaction of cadherins of adjacent cells give the epithelial sheet its shape. Do the cadherins involved in adherens junctions and the cadherins in desmosomes "communicate" at all? What about the cytoskeletal components involved in these 2 types of junctions? Why is the linking of actin filaments/intermediate filaments of one cell with the filaments of another necessary? In other words, why can't the cadherins just interact with one another to link the cells? Sorry if my question doesn't really make sense!
