I've been trying to learn what causes the corpus luteum to finally degenerate once the placenta is ready to take over (in other words what is the trigger or signal and where is this signal produced) I'm guessing the placenta is producing a signal and once this signal is in high enough concentration it triggers the degeneration of the CL but I cannot find any articles that say anything other than "it just does"

$\begingroup$ I've never seen a paper/article that states, "It just does", but I would really love to. Could you please link to one such article and provide a quote? Or any quote and link that doesn't answer the question. That will help you get your question answered properly. Thanks. $\endgroup$ Jan 31 at 18:51
