A sperm whale is unable to ram through thick ice unlike bowhead whales. But it can ram ships and sink them without harm. There are no instances of a bowhead ramming a ship and sinking it, but there a 3 such instances with sperm whales. Why?

$\begingroup$ Only two verified "intended" sinkings (as opposed to accidental collision) with sperm whale - the Ann Alexander and the Essex. The 3rd was an accidental collision, where the ship hit the whale, and is what Moby Dick is based on. $\endgroup$– bob1Nov 20 at 20:45
