My aunt found this skull on the beach in Vancouver Canada. I believe it might be a type of bird, but I can’t place it.

It is about 5 inches (~13 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.35 cm) wide.

  • $\begingroup$ definitely a fish frontal/parietal. It is too long and rugose to be a bird skull part. If you change the title you might get a some fish experts, who can identify species. $\endgroup$ – John May 4 at 13:32

I recently was gifted a skull just like this. I was very puzzled by it. The link above (if attached correctly 😬) will send you to a fisherman’s blog, where he assembles a Coral Trout skull piece by piece with photos of each step. Quite fascinating. The piece that you and I have seems to be the “forehead” of the fish. The rest of the fish head has many other, smaller pieces to it.

The skull I received is from a beach in Washington State. Can’t be sure the exact species, but this is the closest to an answer I have gotten.
