Recently i got to know about how location of gene is shown on chromosome for example-CFTR gene's location is designated as 7q31.2 Which means that it is present on 7th chromosome on the long arm(q), on region 3, on band 1, on sub-band 2.

I can visualize everything on a chromosome upto q( i.e long arm) but how to find out that where is the band 3 or where is band 4 and 5. When i saw the location of this gene in a picture than i didn't understood that how i will find , lets say band 1 and 2 on it.

Can anyone tell me that is it possible to find out where are the regions or how to find a specific band or suband , just by seeing the picture.
