I came across this question in my book:

  • In terms of types of stem cells, define "totipotent".

a. Cell type able to give rise to all cell types including extraembryonic cell lineages

b. Cell type able to give rise to all cells found in the embryo proper

c. Cell type able to give rise to more than one lineages of cells- lineage specific tissue stem cells

d. All of the above

e. None of the above

The suggested answer is "a" as it is inclusive but I'm wondering why isn't "d"; all of the above the correct answer?
