I want to know what exactly determines whether this kind of recombination between two strands is allowed or not as it is said that after recombination the recipient may get new genes which logically means the DNA part that was introduced must have sequence different fron the previous one. Thus the new DNA fragment will not be exactly complementary with the other strand of the recipient. So there must be some criteria that this percentage of complementarity is necessary for the new gene part to be accepted by the recipient. I need some help in finding relevant material answering this.
