Fungiform, Circumvallate, Filiform, Foliate Papillae are present on the surface of the tongue. They have a role in increasing surface area for taste buds that can be accommodated on the tongue. Each type of papilla has different type of taste bud. What is the need of different types of Papillae? Why not only a single form of papilla is present for all the different types of taste buds?
