Anybody noticed that mammal skin (both with hair and without hair) has an irregular scaly pattern when seen up really close? If so, may it have been retained from its pelycosaur and even reptiliomorph ancestors? May Estemmenosuchus have had a similar tiny irregular scaly pattern, that wasn't preserved unlike the glands and rest of the skin?
