It includes direct study of wood structure, as well as deciphering different informations from wood, like studying plant classification and evolution, identification of a wooden object or plant (including forensic study), study of fossil woods, ecological-significance of different anomalous secondary growths, deciphering environmental data in growth ring or any other type growth-records in wood (dendrochronology), economic use of woods, wood disease in living plants, wood deterioration after harvesting, etc.
