Apr 6, 2015 at 17:16 comment added canadianer I have rolled back the edit to the original version. There are many cases in literature of RFLPs being referred to as markers, which they are.

Apr 6, 2015 at 11:29 comment added Nandor Poka Yes restrictions sites are sequence properties but they are 6-8 bases long, so there are waaay too many of them. You keep using RFLP the wrong way, that is the name of the technique / phenomenon noting more. It`s not like VNTR or SNP. You can identify SNPs with RFLP.
Apr 6, 2015 at 10:19 comment added Wolgast The restriction sites are the sequence properties. Some people will have a different amount of them. Otherwise there wouldn't be patterns (the RFLPs) to compare. Hence you can use the RFLPs/restriction sites as genetic markers.
Apr 6, 2015 at 10:05 comment added Nandor Poka RFLP is not a sequence property it's a technique to compare sequences usually over a small segment of DNA. You take your samples, digest them, and run them on a gel, and compare the patterns. Its good for allele diagnosis etc.
Apr 6, 2015 at 9:39 comment added Wolgast But can't one use RFLP paired with Southern Blot as a genetic marker?

Apr 6, 2015 at 9:29 comment added Nandor Poka RFLP is a technique not a marker., thus i deleted this from your answer, but you can revert it if you wish.
